Brian Borcherdt (of Holy Fuck fame) has teamed up with producer Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy, Bruce Peninsula) to form Dusted. Their debut album Total Dust will be released July 10th, and the duo has released a teaser video for single “(Into The) Atmosphere,” which you can see above. It’s a serious piece of expansive elation. You can stream the whole track over on Exclaim!, and if you like what you hear, pre-order the album from label Hand Drawn Dracula.

    TOTAL DUST Track Listing:

    1. All Comes Down
    2. (Into The) Atmosphere
    3. Cut Them Free
    4. Low Humming
    5. Bruises

    10. There Somehow

Chopped with dirty synths and peering as if through a shady security camera, listeners can at last get a (small) taste of what Toronto new-wave rockers Metric will be putting out on June 12th with new album Synthetica.

Curious minds won’t have to wait until June to hear more music from the quartet though; on May 1st, lead-off single “Youth without Youth” will be released, which is supposed to “tackle the topic of a fraying social state with bristling energy, lyrical complexity and a momentary breakdown guaranteed to get crowds jumping along with the song’s driving rhythm.” Sounds good to me.

    Apollo Ghosts

Vancouver’s Apollo Ghosts have announced the release of their upcoming album Landmark via You’ve Changed Records. The 4-piece recorded the tracks in their own practice space, and from the sound of single “What Are Your Influences?” (streaming above; download here), the sloppy, fun aesthetic that the band is known for is captured quite well. Landmark will be out in May, and you can see the track list for the album below.

Whoa— where in the world did these guys come from? Answering my own rhetorical question, Montreal’s Half Moon Run have released the video for single “Full Circle” from their debut LP Dark Eyes. It’s stellar. From the sounds of this, we should be hearing way more from this trio in the future.

    Kalle Mattson

Kalle Mattson - “Water Falls.” A really lovely and lush pop single from the Ottawa-based artist, whose full-length Anchors from last year was an overlooked gem that I regrettably haven’t mentioned much on this blog. That will change with the May 1st release of his EP Lives In Between.

Download “Water Falls” over on Soundcloud.
